 | | | Beeches Beech's Fine Chocolates was founded in 1920 by Edward Collinson. At the time, his family had already operated a chain of successful tea and grocery shops and this venture into the world of chocolate seemed a natural progression. Preston was the obvious place to begin as it ws a busy port with good road links for national distribution. And, Preston women, it transpired, had a natural aptitude for making chocolate. Initially the chocolates were sold at fairgrounds but as Beech's reputation for qaulity grew, so did the company and by the end of the second world war, Collinson had successfully penetrated the top end of the luxury market. The company remained in the Collinson family for 46 years until it was sold to a family of Yorkshire wool merchants. It was during this time that Beech's fine Chocolates became a supplier to the Supercook brand which subsequently acquired the company. The Renshaw Scott Group, renowned for high quality products in the catering and home baking sectors soon took an interest in Beech's Fine Chocolates and by the turn of the new millennium, had become the proud new owner. In late 2002, Renshaw Scott accepted an approach from another interested party and once again the company found itself in private hands. With this renewed independence came increased flexibility, enabling the Beech's brand to deliver high quality confectionary products to both the multiple retails groups adnd to the independent trader. In the first year under the new ownership, Beech's products were bought by 40% of the top British retail names and distribution to independents grew by a very respectable outlets every week.
